HISTORY

Reishi mushroom has a rich history dating back over 2000 years in Chinese herbal medicine. Its significance is evident in ancient Chinese and Japanese artwork, where it is frequently depicted. Known as "Lingzhi" (灵芝) in Chinese, which translates to "herb of spiritual potency," reishi holds a special place in traditional herbalism. Emperor Yan, the legendary first ruler of ancient China, pioneered agricultural practices and tools that formed the foundation of Chinese agriculture. He is credited as the author of the renowned medicinal plant compendium, "Shennong Ben Cao Jing" or "Materia Medica" (神農本草經). In this influential work, Emperor Yan wrote about reishi, highlighting its remarkable effects: “If eaten customarily, it makes your body light and young, lengthens your life, and turns you into one like the immortal who never dies.”

A MUSHROOM FOR YOUR WELLNESS

Reishi mushroom, commonly found growing at the base of deciduous trees, has gained widespread recognition as the most extensively used medicinal mushroom globally, backed by its historical usage and extensive research. It is embraced for its adaptogenic properties, falling under the category of herbs or mushrooms that normalize the body and aid in responding and adapting to various types of stress. Reishi supports the body's stress response system, helping it cope with the detrimental effects stress can have on overall health. This remarkable mushroom has been reported to exhibit antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic properties. Moreover, Reishi plays a role in fortifying the immune system. Like other functional mushrooms, Reishi contains a specific polysaccharide called beta glucans, which have been shown to support immune health.

REISHI SPORES

Reishi spores are the “seed” or “pollen” of reishi mushrooms. Reishi Spore Powder is produced by harvesting these spores, and cracking their cell wall for optimal bioavailability in the body.

Reishi spores are chemically different from Reishi mushrooms.

Studies have shown that Reishi spores contain more so called “triterpenes" than the fruiting body as well as being rich in polysaccharides. Reishi spores also contain adenosine, amino acids, minerals, alkaloids and polypeptides. Triterpenes and polysaccharides are major healing constituents in Reishi.

What Is It Good For?

Powerful Immune System Support

The most well-known benefit of Reishi is its ability to support the immune system*. Studies have shown that polysaccharides in Reishi may be able to modulate the immune system [1] and even alter inflammation pathways in white blood cells*. [2]

In one study on athletes exposed to stressful conditions, Reishi also improved the function of white blood cells*. [3]

Modern clinical animal studies (specifically on nematodes) have shown water extracts of Reishi protect against oxidative stress and significantly prolong lifespan*.[4]

Better Sleep

Another common name for Reishi is the “Spirit mushroom” because of its ability to foster calmness, relaxation, and more specifically, sleep.

Studies in mice and rats have found that extracts of Reishi significantly increased both total sleep time and non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep time, and suggests Reishi supplementation produces a hypnotic effect. [1]

Fights Fatigue and Depression

A study examined Reishi's effects in 132 people with neurasthenia, a poorly defined condition associated with aches, pains, dizziness, headaches and irritability [1].

The researchers found that fatigue was reduced and well-being was improved after 8 weeks of taking the Reishi supplements.

Another study found that fatigue was reduced and quality of life was improved after 4 weeks of taking Reishi powder in a group of 48 breast cancer survivors [2].

What’s more, the people in the study also experienced less anxiety and depression.
